Volunteer Opportunities

If you are looking for ways to network and become a more active Central Iowa SHRM member, there are a lot of opportunities available. You could become a member of one of the many committees or simply volunteer for various one time commitments that come up throughout the year. Below are a few volunteer opportunities that exist throughout the year. Please click here to complete the volunteer form. Member Communications Committee

Content Sourcing Agent-Do you enjoy sharing relevant HR information with your network? This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! Work with our administrator to gather content for a semi-monthly newsletter and share your passion.

Social Media Addict-Do you love spending time on social media? Help Central Iowa SHRM get our events and programs out to our members by working with committee contacts to share information.

Certification Committee

  • Planning/Facilitating Study Groups

Competency Committee

  • Enhance necessary and purposeful skills, through quarterly workshops, that an HR professional can immediately take back and apply at their organization.

  • Select competency based training topics and themes and secure speakers, event locations and sponsors. Market events to the HR and Business communities.

Programs Committee

  • Assist at events, which may involve set up and clean up, taking pictures, helping with refreshments, verifying equipment for speakers, assuring speaker needs are met, introduction of speaker, networking activities for attendees, closing of the meeting.

  • Serve on the program committee which meets on a monthly basis.

  • Research or make contacts with potential speakers.

  • Secure venues, including facility and equipment needs.

Workforce Readiness Committee

  • Serve on the committee which meets on a monthly basis. Committee plans semi-annual interview event and assists high schools with presentations, mock interviews and resume critiques.

  • Mock Interview Sessions (2-4 hours per session)

  • Classroom Speaking Engagements (30-90 minutes per session)

  • Interview Event Volunteering (volunteers may come from outside the committee)

o    Candidate Registration (2-3 hour sessions)

o    Employer Registration & Assistance (2-3 hour sessions)

o    Room Monitor/Time Keeper (3 hour session)

Emerging Professional Engagement and College Relations Committee

VISION: To be recognized as the voice for growth opportunities within the HR community.

MISSION: To support growth within the HR community. 

We will support our mission by offering programs that focus on cultivating relationships, promote knowledge sharing and access to resources, and career development opportunities tailored toward those who are new to the field and/or less experienced HR Professionals aspiring to elevate their career. 

Membership Committee

  • Help promote Central Iowa SHRM at any of the conferences where we have a table or booth.  

  • Assist in bringing materials.

  • Setting up table.

  • Disseminating materials during conference.

  • Communicating information to prospects.

  • Member sign-up.

  • Meet with the membership committee monthly to help determine ways to attract and retain members.
  • Central Iowa SHRM Connection Meet and Mingle Event.

  • Assist with gathering, compiling and/or developing materials for Central Iowa SHRM Connection Meet and Mingle Event.

  • Develop name tags for registrants.

  • Copy/print brochures.

  • Get prizes.

  • Event set-up.
