In the past few years we have seen a trend in the interest of YOU, our members, to be strongly involved in the community through your membership at Central Iowa SHRM. This has reiterated for us as a Board, the importance community partnerships bring to our members and our chapter. HR professionals are giving people. Our mission at Central Iowa SHRM is to “Serve as advocates of the HR and business community, which we promise to do by providing exceptional programs, credible resources, networking opportunities, and strategic partnerships that continually inspire and stimulate individual, business and community growth and development.”

We see this opportunity correlating with the mission of the Foundation role at SHRM. The SHRM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the HR profession, including academics, practitioners and representatives from SHRM. The SHRM Foundation strengthens and advances the HR profession by assisting individuals in their pursuit of greater academic credentials, by supporting researchers in the field of HR and by creating materials that explain how practitioners can capitalize on the new knowledge that research provides. The Foundation awards over $150,000 annually in education and certification scholarships to professional and student SHRM members, and doctoral students. The Foundation is meaningful and matters in what we do as HR professionals.

We felt 2013 was the time to form a role dedicated to this area of our chapter, partnering with the great work of the SHRM Foundation. Through the alliances we build, we will connect you to volunteer opportunities, specifically those that put to use the skill sets you possess as HR professionals.

If you would be interested in serving on this team and playing a key role in building this newly created segment of CISHRM, we would love to speak with you. To learn more, please contact Danni Morton at Foundation@cishrm.com.
